Statement of Significance

Description of Historic Place

Emmanuel Cemetery is a Municipal Heritage Property located in the Rural Municipality of Estevan No. 5 approximately five kilometres south of Roche Percee and one kilometre north of the United States border. The property features a small cemetery located on a one acre plot of land.

Heritage Value

The heritage value of the Emmanuel Cemetery lies in its association with the area’s pioneers. One of the oldest in the district, the cemetery was established prior to 1905 and remained active until 1944. The small cemetery is the final resting place for 29 original residents of the district.

The heritage value of the property also lies in its landscape. The cemetery is offset from the adjoining ranch land by several hedgerows that define part of the property’s border.
